First
of all, for those who don’t know what a Corporate University
is… |
| |
Corporate
University is a generic name given to educational structures based
in private and public, commercial and non-commercial organisations,
to help implement - through education - the organization's strategies
in human, economic, financial, technological, social and environmental
terms. |
| |
The
theme of the 2008 GlobalCCU Forum is to establish a link between
Corporate Education and Corporate Responsibility (CSR and Sustainable
Development). Is this a new strategic aim for Corporate Universities?
Annick Renaud-Coulon, founder of GlobalCCU explains. |
| |
|
“ The
usual purpose of Corporate Universities was to help companies to
develop the right competences to implement their business strategies.
Not only must they continue to pursue these goals; but Corporate
Universities must become more influential and branch out into realities.
The ecological and human stakes of the planet have become too important,
so it is time for action! The Corporate University can serve as
a bridge to the outside world, to move towards it and invite it
to enter the organisation. It can help the company to discover
the stakeholders and cooperate with them. It can educate employees
to respect people and the environment, to learn new competencies
to help the company to be more rigorous and demanding for itself
in the elaboration and implementation of its business strategies.
It is effectively a new strategic aim I encourage all Corporate
Universities to implement. ” |
| |
In
practice, what is the link between Corporate Education and Corporate
Responsibility? |
| |
Some Corporate
Universities already offer learning in Corporate Responsibility.
They deliver seminars on corporate responsibility culture,
on protection of the natural environment, discouraging waste
and pollution. They organise leadership learning programmes
on Corporate Responsibility, Corporate Citizenship, Sustainable
Development for top executives and middle management. They
help employees who support NGOs through voluntary programmes.
They develop cooperation with educational systems and academics,
building new curricula and delivering diplomas, they tutor
directors and teachers of high schools. They deliver programs
on the education of underprivileged people literacy, and
so on. This is a list of some examples.
The link
between Corporate Education and Corporate Responsibility
is just beginning; it needs to continue to be invented, with
pragmatism, passion and intelligence. It is this best added
value of the GlobalCCU Forum 2008 to unite Corporate Educational
professionals, Sustainable Development officers, Corporate
Social Responsibility officers and executives of Corporate
Foundations, to exchange and create a corpus of knowledge
on this often new subject to them.

Anderson is the President of Defense Acquisition University
Ministry
of Defense Acquisition, Technology and Logistics (USA)
|
” One
of the most important roles of a corporate education organisation
(or in our case, a corporate university), is as a strategic conveyor
for the corporate senior leadership – outreach and communicate
to its workforce, customers, stakeholders, suppliers, and most
importantly, community. Additionally, corporate communications
from the corporate education organisation, should be targeted to
external, as well as internal, audiences. In our case at the Defense
Acquisition University, we believe one of our most important functions
on behalf of our senior leadership is to promote and convey a central
message for corporate responsibilities. DAU has become a strategic
tool for our corporate leadership. Our courses and learning assets
are effectively used to reach and influence our workforce, stakeholders,
community, and faculty and staff in regard to critical subjects
that promote and educate corporate social responsibilities. Additionally,
personalised e-messages and web-casts, directly from our corporate
leadership, are new powerful tools and technologies now utilised
to help shape our culture and influence behaviour. DAU's mission,
values and learning products are underpinned with corporate responsibility.
Its content is embedded throughout many of our training courses,
online learning modules, our knowledge sharing systems, and performance
support efforts. One specific example is our online, interactive
Ethics learning module which has been required training for all
126,000 members of workforce; it goes beyond improper or illegal
behaviour, and encompasses perception, values, trustworthiness,
respect for others, business responsibility, work ethic, justice,
fairness, civic virtue and good citizenship. Environmental concerns,
business responsibility, equitable business competition, special
small business, minority and service disabled considerations are
other examples of our corporate responsibility content that we
convey to the community. ” |

Head of Dexia Corporate University, Belgium

” The
Dexia Corporate University is committed to facilitate the implementation
of the Group’s strategy and support Dexia to face its strategic
challenges. Sustainable development is at the very heart of Dexia
Group strategy, assisting our clients from a sustainability point
of view in the actions they take and to provide them with innovative
products and services. The environmental and social challenges
we will have to overcome in future years, such as the fight against
climate change, the protection of biodiversity, the passing of
experience from current generations to the next, the place of women
and the access of disabled people to work, are also at the heart
of our strategy. Therefore it is significantly important for Dexia
to support the 2008 GlobalCCU Forum. It is a unique opportunity
to network, exchange best practises, share experience with other
Corporate Universities from all over the world, and above all,
listening to key-note speakers to maintain our strategic reflection
on this important topic. ” |
